Amelia Island stretches out next to Florida’s east coast, just south of the Georgia border within Nassau County. The island is known for its enchanting beaches, distinctive culture, and worlds-away atmosphere. Just north of Amelia Island is the historic St. Marys, Georgia. St. Marys has been continuously inhabited since it was initially settled in the mid-16th century by the Spanish. Today, this seaside community seems largely untarnished by the passing of time—it is both peaceful and innocent. St. Marys is known as the gateway to Cumberland Island National Seashore.
